Patrick Sarsfield (P.S.) Gilmore was born in County Galway, Ireland, on December 25, 1829, and later became known as the "Father of the American Concert Band." Gilmore organized and staged two music festivals in Boston, Massachusetts: the National Peace Jubilee (1869) and the World's Peace Jubilee (1872). The National Peace Jubilee and Music Festival took place in Boston, Massachusetts on June 15-19, 1869, to commemorate the restoration of peace four years after the American Civil War.
